2019 ANHEJ CONFERENCE

November 28, 2019

ANHEJ was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2013.

The Association of Nigerian Health Journalists (ANHEJ), is a group of professional journalists who have been assigned by different media organizations to cover activities in the health sector in Nigeria. Our headquarters is in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). We have over 40 members cutting across the print, electronic and online media.

ANHEJ members conduct in-depth investigations and interact with state and non-state actors to obtain health information needed to boost the health profile of the nation.

As part of the deliberate partnership to improve the healthcare system in Nigeria, ANHEJ has instituted an annual conference where stakeholders in the health sector come together to brainstorm on a given theme and offer workable suggestions on the way forward.

This year’s theme is centred around Nigeria’s increasing population and efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs)3, Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all Nigerians, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and child malnutrition.

Theme: Nigeria’s increasing population, achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Any hope?

  • Sub-theme 1 – Outcome of Nairobi’s International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD): What are the key issues for Nigeria?
  • Sub-theme 2 – Understanding the economic impact of child malnutrition
  • Sub-theme 3 – Rallying support for WHO on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in health facilities

With this theme and sub-themes, the conference intends to x-ray the government’s efforts towards ensuring the attainment of universal health for Nigeria’s growing population.
With the understanding that attaining UHC and MDG3 is not possible without the critical consideration of issues around reproductive health, women and the girl-child, the 2019 ANHEJ Conference intends to scrutinize the outcome of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), in Nairobi, narrowing it to Nigeria.

There is no doubt, child malnutrition has its economic cost to the nation, this, the conference intends to critically examine.

The conference also intends to look at the nagging issue of water and basic sanitation around our healthcare facilities.

As media practitioners, we believe, discussing these issues will open up other hidden issues, especially, the level of preparedness by the government and efforts by our partners- both local and international to tackle them.
